Dating Violence Includes: Threats, Physical, Sexual, Emotional, or Verbal Abuse. 

Parents or other caretakers in the home can also be abusive. Domestic violence against you or witnessing domestic violence in your home is a reason to seek shelter or assistance.

Abuse ≠ “Fights”. Dating violence is when one person is afraid of and/or intimidated by the other person in the relationship.

  • Humiliation
  • Put-downs
  • Jealousy
  • Mind Games
  • Possessiveness
  • Stealing $
  • Threatening to “out” you (if in a gay or lesbian relationship)
  • Intense questioning
  • Threatening suicide

Sexual Abuse Includes:

  • Accusations of unfaithfulness
  • Unwanted grabbing or touching sexual parts of your body
  • Sexual acts performed by you b/c of fear of partner
  • Not allowing you to use protection
  • Forced Sex
  • Rape with an object
  • Making you feel bad about sexual history
  • Rape
  • Forcing you to be involved in Prostitution
  • Called sexual names
  • Forcing you to undress
  • Taking videos or pictures of someone undressing or involved in sexual behavior without consent
  • Making someone dress sexier or less sexy
  • Forcing someone to watch others engaged in sexual acts
  • Any sexual activity between an adult and a child or a child with a much younger child

Physical Abuse Includes:

  • Pushing
  • Grabbing
  • Hitting
  • Slapping
  • Punching
  • Kicking
  • Pinching
  • Spitting at you
  • Holding you Down
  • Trapping you in a room or car & blocking you from leaving
  • Hair pulling
  • Biting
  • Strangling
  • Throwing objects at you
  • Use of Weapons against you
  • Arm twisting
  • Burning
  • Carrying you against your will
  • Abandoning you in an unsafe place
  • Chasing
  • Hiding your keys or shoes preventing you from leaving
  • Refusing to help someone when they are sick or injured
  • Following or stalking
