What services are available from the SOS Shelter?
To those staying at the shelter, the agency provides counseling, food, clothing, activities for children, advocacy, legal information, transportation, assistance with public entitlement programs, relocation and budgeting assistance, some assistance with household furnishings, and information about and referral to other services in the community. SOS Shelter has a free weekly support group, please call 607-748-7453 for information. You will meet new friends, find support, learn about domestic violence and survival and learn about self empowerment. Call for more information on "HOW TO LEAVE."Short term, free domestic violence counseling is available at 607-748-7453. (This is not clinical, long term counseling, it is educational in nature)
In addition to the services provided to residents staying in our emergency shelter, the SOS Shelter also provides services through its Advocacy Office. This office provides legal information and assistance and advocacy by appointment. Our Community Education & Outreach Program staff are also available to provide speakers and training to interested community groups and organizations. The organization operates a 24 hour hotline, 754-4340, toll free 1-877-754-4340. The advocacy office is reachable Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, at 748-5174. Arrangements for a speaker from the shelter may be made by calling the administrative office at 748-7453.
